Q: History and background

My name is Marina, I'm 27 years old and I'm an agronomist. But my story with coffee started a long time ago because my family has grown coffee for many generations so I always had contact with the crop since I was a child. I started to deepen my connection with coffee when I was in the college. I did my graduate degree at the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) and in 2016 I started studying some projects related to coffee and then I liked it so much that I decided to do my master's degree in crop science with a focus on coffee crops. And then after I finished my Master I started the Ph.D. and my dissertation was about sustainable techniques with a focus on soil health and how this practice could help the yield and quality of the coffee crop

Q: What drives you as a person?

What drives me as a person is doing something that can make some difference in the lives of people around me. Also, as an agronomist, i share my knowledge about the coffee crop with producers and help them make profits while respecting the environment.

Q: What do you do at Sancoffee?

I'm currently working at Sancoffee as a quality inspector on a project called 88+. The aim of this project is to help the growers to achieve good quality coffee with scores above 88. So we support them with post-harvest practices and also with agricultural advice following them in the field and sharing with them sustainable practices that will help them  improve the quality of their coffees and also the profitability while respecting the environment. Also, I'm part of the marketing team. In the marketing team, we work to enhance the visibility of our coffees and the sustainable practices we implement in order to achieve good quality coffees.

Q: How do you like your coffee?

I like to value my origin so my favorite coffee is the one with high sweetness and chocolate flavor.

Q: What do you like the most about your job?

There are two things: I really appreciate the team here at Sancoffee because we share the same values and the energy is fantastic so Sancoffee is a great place to work. And also I really appreciate the opportunity that I have to share with the growers everything that is new and all technologies that we can apply to improve the quality of their coffees.

Q: What are you excited the most about next year?

I'm very excited about the next season and I can't wait to see the results of our work this season. We are already seeing them this season and I hope that in the next one it will be even better.
